Endless Summer

Most of my friends know that I intensely dislike Disco music.  The 70’s weren’t the favorite decade in my life.  However, there is one exception to that rule….Donna Summer.  I owned every album (yes, I am showing my age), and I played them over and over again.

Today, I have every Donna Summer song on my Ipod.  I listen to them over and over.  I never seem to tire of “Last Dance,” “On The Radio,” “Hot Stuff,” or “She Works Hard For The Money.”  I know all the words and love to sing with her, albeit a little off-key.

I had planned on writing the next part in our St. Louis story yesterday, but felt too sad when heard of Ms. Summer’s passing.  It was a little surreal to think she was here in Naples, Florida during her final moments.  I heard she loved it here.  Our Endless Summer days took a break for 2 straight days this week and it had rained most of the time.  Now I know why.

I’m glad she had so many hits that will live on in my Ipod, albums, and perhaps a few 8tracks as well.  I am thankful that because of her I do like a little “Disco” now and then.   Thank you again Ms. Summer.

Who Has Been Sleeping In My Bed?

As most of you know, we have 4 “furry” children.  We are proud parents to two dogs and two cats.  My husband and I treat them pretty darn good if I do say so myself.  They get orthopedic peds since most of them are handicapped.  I have a bad back, but I don’t have an orthopedic bed!

The beds each “child” has is top-notch!  High-top pillow mattress of the animal kingdom.  However, as the pictures below will attest, no one seems to get which bed is his or her own.  I come home to find dogs in cat beds, cats in dog beds, dogs asleep on coffee tables, cats on MY PILLOWS, and one particular dog always on our Lazy Boy recliner.  My husband and I know exactly how those three bears felt when they came home to find Goldilocks asleep in their bed!

Darn Technology!

We used to see the outside world. We used to do things in the evening. I remember taking walks and enjoying time together. However, that was all before the DVR.

Once we got our DVR and started recording TV, we became couch potatoes. Every night we sit and watch mindless TV. We used to only record one or two shows. But since this new TV season started, we are recording tons of shows. Not only are we recording shows on the DVR in the living room, now we are recording them in the bedroom as well.

I think we need to have an intervention. We need to get up off our butts and walk, read, or even….(spoiler alert) talk! Perish the thought!

In the past 5 weeks we have either been cleaning, moving furniture, painting, or watching TV. This weather is beautiful and it is time for us to put a stop to our addiction…right after we watch one more show.

DOH!

You Know You Are Old When…

You know you’re old when….
Hubby and I were at church Sunday talking with a lovely young mother and another friend. My husband was talking about how he hates living in Naples due to the heat and humidity that seems to last most of the year. He mentioned that he is counting the days until we retire and we can move to TN. The lovely young mother replied “Wow! I thought only Young people thought that way!”

I laughed out loud. “did you hear that honey? She said that only young people feel that way. And apparently you are not young.” Perhaps we are closer to retirement than we thought.

That’s What I’m Talking About!

It’s here! It finally came! I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!

What is it? The cool front! It is here with a bang.  Temperatures are in the 70s in the evening and get to 86 during the day with very low humidity.

People are coming out of hiding, putting down convertible tops, walking the neighborhoods more frequently, washing cars, and smiling a lot.  This is the weather I love.  This is the time of year I love the most.  Just after our “hot” season, and right before our “crowded” season.  Thank you to everyone for putting up with my cranky attitude this past Summer.  Hopefully that is gone with the humidity.
